Impact Music : Extraction

Extraction is Impact Music’s second album, following the majestic CineMaster Series 2012.

It is a modern and innovative album, combining electro elements and traditional orchestra in an effective way.

Dub, not step.

With this new album, Impact Music is staying ahead of the current musical trends, breaking new ground and meeting the clients’ needs.

Dubstep has indeed become less popular than before. Some trailer music companies are now working on variations on this genre, looking for alternatives that will be slightly different, but still close to dubstep in style. Gothic Storm, for example, recently released Epicstep, an album that features step… but not dub! Conversely, Impact Music decided to focuse on dub… and not step.

Extraction is a collection of trailer music cues, and, as you can guess, it doesn’t feature dub only; it also incorporates electro elements, sound design, orchestra, and choir. More modern than CineMaster Series 2012, Extraction also has a darker atmosphere, which sometimes seems almost apocalyptic. The music is dynamic and intense, very robotic at times, more traditional or melodic at others.

The concept: to extract the essence of music

The creative process of Extraction was particular and complex. The idea was to first mix dub, electro and orchestra, and make a coherent whole. Then, to extract the different essences from this blend, and make alternative versions that aren’t true ones, but rather “extracted” mixes: dub mixes, electro mixes, and, of course, orchestral mixes. These “essences” are meant to exist on their own and sound coherent as well. Finally, when superimposed,  they match the original versions.

The album cover reflects this concept: we can see human life climbing out of a cold and abstract universe, made of metal and deciphers. Both are opposite to each other, and complementary: the organic, and the inorganic, movement and inertia… It is somehow a metaphor of the contrast between orchestra and choir on one hand, and electro, dub and sound design on the other hand, in Extraction.

Impact Music, a sound with impact

With intense and powerful music, as well as high audio quality, the company wants to get a sound that will have as much impact as possible. Like its predecessor, Extraction was recorded live, produced by Serge Colbert, and co-produced by Greg Townley, who has also worked with renowned trailer music companies like Immediate Music and audiomachine.

This new album was composed by Dylan Parker, Matthew Adam, Serge Colbert, and Jean-Paul Newman.

No public releases for the time being

Public releases are planned, but fans will have to be patient and wait for a couple of years before having the possibility to buy Impact Music’s albums on iTunes or Amazon. The company wishes indeed to keep their music exclusive to clients for some time.
