Two Articles about the Trailer Music Industry
Two interesting stories related to the trailer music business were recently published. Respectively by Music Industry Newswire, and The Independent: What Music Supervisors Wish You Knew, and The science of the trailer.
What Music Supervisors Wish You Knew is a summary of a panel with the same name, which took place on June, 20th. It was organized by the PMA (Production Music Association). Amongst the panelists were people working for Brand X Music, PostHaste Music, 5Alarm… to mention a few companies. The article talks about the hard competition between composers as well as between production music libraries, and mentions what music supervisors are truly looking for: “Too many people involved with music are aware of the excellent reasons for making a pitch, including money, exposure, money, potential fame, money, marketing, and money. Because of this, there are a ton of folks trying to get their music heard, accepted and placed in a movie, television show, commercial, or game.” “The bottom line is that music supervisors, under the best circumstances, fight for the values of the project.” Read more.
The science of the trailer explains how trailers are supposed to attract the audience and invite it to watch the movie they advertise for: “Great trailers are always about raising questions but never answering them, and about whetting your appetite” “A good trailer is all about seduction. It should tease you, make a strong impression, and then leave you wanting more.” Read more.
