Sound Adventures: Nemesis

Sound Adventures’ new album, Nemesis, is a dark, epic and modern, hybrid/orchestral collection of tracks, mainly instrumental – although it also includes a few songs.

“In the last few years there has been an amazing degree of beautification in production music by top producers”, says Timo Spekkens, owner of Sound Adventures. “So the question becomes: How do you stay on the leading edge of that ever-evolving wave? The answer is a subtle play of inventiveness and daring, at the same time offering clients something that fits in the current stream of expectation. I feel strongly that this is precisely the balance we struck with Nemesis. Every cue is daring—from top to bottom—beginning with the compositions, orchestrations, and sound design, all the way through to our “going all out” production values. The compositions of Nemesis have creative melodies and a wonderful thematic flow.”

The album was recorded live, and carefully mixed, to offer a larger-than-life experience. “We hired over 70 musicians, in Europe and here in Los Angeles”, Spekkens explains. “In mixing the recording, we employed all of the full panoramic cinematic depth available, yet we dared to push the mix to give it more of an “in your face” presence. Nemesis unfolds solidly with historic orchestral warmth. We added further spice and supported with heavy guitar playing and amazing cutting-edge sound design. We didn’t fall into the trap of employing a formulaic, building Trailer section with canned percussion loops and ever-rising similar walls of sound.”

Nemesis was composed by Peter Bateman and features female vocalist Bekki Friesen as well as drummer Joe Travers. Bateman’s musical skills have already been used to great effect in Marvel’s Avengers, Fifty Shades of Grey, Shadows of Mordor, The Hunger Games, Maleficent, Fast and Furious 6, and many other titles.

The entire album is available for listening on Youtube (see playlist below).
