Michael Maas: Illumination

German composer Michael Maas just released Illumination, his second solo album

Illumination offers inspiring, epic and cinematic music, mixing orchestra, choir and solo female vocals. No “blasting” music, heavy sounds or screaming choir, however… Michael Maas’ new album is halfway between trailer music and movie soundtracks, a mix of his favorite styles. Illumination includes music for trailers, but also movies.  “I always try to do a mix between both styles”, Michael says. “In trailer music, it is often too noisy and loud for me, so there is a calmer part in soundtracks. I try to combine the loudest part of trailer music and calmer parts of soundtracks with each other. My music is really a mixture of a high climax and quiet parts.”

Michael also notes, “Illumination, or to use another word, ‘enlightening’ or ‘light’, was for me the right term to describe the  album as a whole. […] it’s not a theme album, it’s more of a mix between all my styles that I love to write, exactly that kind of music that gives me a piece of Illumination.”

Illumination features the talented female solo vocalist Felicia Farrere:

Known for his work with Black Phoenix Music, the company he founded with Christoph Allerstorfer, Michael Maas is now also working for other trailer music libraries, including Liquid Cinema, dos brains, ReallySlowMotion, and, more recently, Immediate Music.
