Introducing: Impact Music

Impact Music is a new trailer music company, which “focuses on licensing high quality cinematic music”.

The company

Impact Music was founded by Serge Colbert and Alexandre Pisani Winckelmann; their “deliberate choice is excellence in contrast to current music libraries.”

The keywords to describe Impact Music are, first, “impact”, of course: Serge Colbert and Alexandre Pisani Winckelmann want to offer us music with high impact, which will be perfectly fit for trailers, and move the audience. Greg Townley, who has co-produced their first album, says: “[Serge Colbert’s] main concern was for the music to live up to the name of his and Alex’s company. He told me, a few times honestly, that the music had to have IMPACT and I should do whatever it takes to achieve that ideal. Well, Serge’s writing had the all impact, I just helped him realize it by choosing where the focus of each piece should be and creating whatever the production needed. At times it was adding percussion, designing powerful sounds to support the piece sonically, or building up the power of the track by suggesting arrangement choices.”

Another keyword to describe this company is “quality”: unlike many other companies, who tend to produce a high quantity of music, which may be efficient but often sound generic, Impact Music highly values quality over quantity. Their goal is to “offer superbly crafted music as opposed to volume vending”, with distinctive melodies. Their first album will only include twelve tracks.

This leads us to a third keyword, “excellence”. Indeed, they are striving not only for quality, but for excellence as well. This fact means recording their music entirely with real orchestras and choirs, and fine musicians at the reknown Rudolfinum Concert Hall in Prague. This also implies working with very talented producers such as Greg Townley. Finally, this notion of excellence results in high quality audio files: 96kHz, surround sound… Impact Music will feature “a very fine selection of ready-made premium tracks”.

The last keyword is “experience” – both in trailer music and movie scoring. Impact Music is indeed “benefiting from an extensive film music experience”, as Serge Colbert worked for fifteen years in film scoring before getting into trailer music. This allows him to have a more cinematographic and cinematic approach to music. Regarding trailer music, Serge has worked with Immediate Music until very recently. He did several notable cues for them, such as “Journey to the Front”, “The Dark Knight” (both featured in the Themes For Orchestra and Choir #3) and “O Destina” (in the Epic Choral Action album). These tracks might only be a foretaste of what is to come with Impact Music. The future will tell us…

One last particularity at Impact Music is that the names of the various composers will be pushed forward; Impact Music wish people to know by whom each track was composed, and not just the name of the company.

Impact Music’s first album

Entitled 2012, it was released in May. It was composed by Serge Colbert, Dylan Parker, and Jean-Paul Newman and it is part of the CineMaster Series. 2012 was produced by Serge Colbert and co-produced by Greg Townley.

More albums are to come soon. Impact Music also intend to do public releases in the future.

Here is a making-of, containing extracts from 2012:
